Wheat harvest in Bulgaria reached 5.65 million tons in 2016 and exports could reach 3.6-4.0 million tons, according to the experts and officials in Ministry of Agriculture. The information notes that compared to the harvest of 2015, the wheat production has increased by 13%. The good harvest is the result of favorable weather conditions and high quality seeds used by the local farmers.
The average yield of wheat in Bulgaria reached 4.79 tonnes per hectare in 2016. The country also had in stock 526,694 tonnes of wheat from previous years as of end-July. The share of bread wheat has increased to 44% against 32% during the previous year.
The exports began actively and in early November reached 2.1 million tons, as 76% of exports go to EU countries. During the last season were exported 3.5 million tons of wheat, but this year the result will be exceeded.
The corn yield, however, decreased by 15% to 2.3 million tons because of hot and dry summer. The farmers have handled 95% of the fields with corn to early November.
Since the beginning of the season Bulgaria exported 0.342 million tons of corn.
The weather in the first half of October was favorable for the autumn sowing. According to the forecast in the report were sown 1.05 million hectares.
