Unemployment in Bulgaria decreased to 7.0% in Q3 2016

The unemployment in Bulgaria decreased to 7.0% in Q3 2016, which means that jobless people during the reported period are 229,000. The latest results on of the Labour Force Survey, held by the National Statistical Institute, show that unemployed people in Q3 2016 are 50,300 less than the same period last year, when unemployment rate was 8.3%.

During the reported period, the unemployment decreased for both men and women, as the rate reached 7.4% for men and 6.5% for women. From the total number of unemployed people in the third quarter of 2016, men are 130,100 (56.8%) and women are 98,900 (43.2%).

In the third quarter, the total number of employed persons in Bulgaria at 15+ years old are 3.05 million people, of which 1.62 million people are men and 1.43 million people are women. From the total number of employed people, 63.5% are working in the service sector, while 29.3% are working in industry and 7.20 % are working in agriculture, forestry and fishery.

Of all employed people, 3.5% are employers, 7.6% are self-employed, 88.4% are employees and 0.6% are unpaid family workers. Largest part of the workers in Bulgaria are employed in private sector (74.5%), while in the public sector are working 25.5%. Compared to the third quarter of 2015 the number of employees decreased in both sectors – by 1.0% in the private and by 0.6% in the public sector.

With temporary work are employed 140,900 people, or 5.2%.
